The application comes as Waverley Borough Council considers where best to build the 9,861 new homes needed in the Borough over the next 16 years.
Dunsfold Aerodrome is the largest brownfield site in Waverley and, unlike the majority of land in the Borough, is neither in the green belt nor the Surrey Hills AONB (Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty).
Dunsfold Park’s vision is to deliver a ‘new Surrey village’, with the new homes being accompanied by new employment space, and a range of services and community facilities for residents. Proposed facilities include a school, health centre and country park, which will be delivered alongside a comprehensive package of transport improvements.
The Aerodrome is currently home to Dunsfold Business Park, which accommodates over 100 businesses employing over 700 people. Under the plans the Business Park, currently Waverley’s largest employment site, would be expanded to create new jobs.
Commenting today a spokesperson for Dunsfold Park said:
‘‘Dunsfold Aerodrome offers an opportunity to help meet the Borough’s housing needs in a way that helps all Waverley residents. The proposals would provide homes for young families currently priced out of the area, direct development away from green fields, create new jobs and deliver a range of new community facilities and infrastructure improvements.
‘We know from last year’s Council consultation, and from the feedback from our exhibition in July, that residents share our excitement about Dunsfold Aerodrome’s potential to benefit the community. Our application is the first step towards delivering those benefits for all.’’
